MV The Second Snark

Galt Transport Secondsnark

We recently moved the MV Secondsnark, a historic vessel with a rich local history.

Listed as a national historic ship and built by Wm Denny & Son of Dumbarton in 1938, the MV Snark was for many years a standby vessel for the Gourock to Kilcreggan ferry. She was also used for summer cruises from Kilcreggan as well as private charters.

After being donated to The Second Snark Preservation Society by the previous owner, the charity now intends to raise the necessary funds in order to return the vessel to operational condition.

Having previously moved the vessel the 514 miles by road from Plymouth to Fairlie, our most recent job was to move the hull from indoor storage at Fairlie to a shipyard location in Greenock. The most recent move involved our Mercedes STGO CAT 3 tractor unit and Nooteboom 3 axle extendable flatbed trailer as well as an escort vehicle.

The overall aim of the Society is to raise enough funds to complete the restoration and see the ship set sail on the Clyde once again.
