Galt Transport MD receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Galt Transport are delighted to announce that Managing Director Allan Galt has been awarded a Transport News Lifetime Achievement Award.  The awards, now in their 23rd year, recognise the achievements of the road haulage industry and those within it.  The award was presented at the Transport News Scottish Rewards ceremony on Friday 4th November at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

Managing Director Allan Galt has led the family owned and operated business for 50 years, after joining his father in the business at the age of 20.  Over the next 50 years, Allan along with his wife Rena grew the business to include four depots, 50 drivers, 10 office staff, in house workshop, driver training school and extensive storage facilities.  Servicing a diverse customer base the business has grown to include a diverse fleet, including a wide variety of vehicle/crane combinations and specialist haulage services.

Having spent his entire working life in the transport industry and serving his apprenticeship at Albion Motors in Scotstoun, Allan hasn’t lost his enthusiasm or motivation to diversify and grow the business.  Now semi-retired, but still not afraid to get his sleeves rolled up, Allan oversees key projects as well as the company’s overall performance.

Allan’s greatest sense of achievement, he says, is the company’s loyal workforce.  The majority of Galt Transport’s employees have accrued long service records, meaning that the loyalty and industry experience shared across the team gives the firm a skills base that’s second to none.

Allan’s son, Andrew, joined the company in 2004.  Starting behind the wheel, Andrew spent time driving for the company and gaining his HGV class 1 and crane certificates.  After moving into the office and spending time on the busy traffic desk, Andrew now looks after company operations on a day to day basis.
